Amsterdam Canal Boat

Here's one I did today. 5" x 7", oil on canvas panel, palette knife.

Started it at lunch and finished this evening. I did this one for my other blog, The Virtual Paintout, which uses Google Streetview to travel the world, one city at a time, finding interesting things to paint. It's open to everyone and every medium, except computer altered art. It runs from the beginning of a month to the end. So plenty of time to join in!

I jumped the gun on this one. A couple of days early, but why not get April off to a running start?

Comments are always welcome. Thanks for looking.

I especially like the development of the abstracted shapes and the close color harmonies of the fore and midground areas, Bill. Bravo.

And it is also nice to see you over at my place, too. I have some more pieces to post soon, too, I promise.

Hi Vicki. It is so much easier for me to simplify and abstract with the palette knife.

You've got a nice blog going there, too.

Thanks Leslie.

Glad you like it, Rob! I was wondering if you or Rene would notice.

Bill, what kind of knife (brand & size/shape) are you using if you don't mind? I like the thin, springy kind for paint mixing, but find that I am not getting reliable scribed lines when using them to paint--frustrating. Looking at the net and tie lines, it looks like you are having no problems there.

Hi Vicki. It's a cheapo bought by the pack at Hobby Lobby a while back. It's got a "1" on the handle. Blade's about an inch long, shaped like a trowel. Rounded tip.

I never looked closely at it until you asked this question. When pushing my fingertip against its tip it gives about the same as a well done steak on the grill. ;)

I have others. Some nice ones bought used also. But this is the only one I've used through this series.

This is beautiful, Bill! And Amsterdam is a favorite of mine - lovely people! I guess that I'd better get on with the painting.

Beautiful work, Bill!!! And what a neat idea... I'm going to have to find out about it... never had heard of it before ... hmmmm.

Whatever... you've painted it wonderfully!... You and Leslie with your fabulous palette knives... Masterful!

Hi Susan. Quite a bit to paint in that city. I was there years ago. Loved it.

This is just amazing, as all your paintings are. Pure genius.
