Nicolas and the Three Balustrades

Here's one I did for the Virtual Paintout for May. It didn't photograph well at all. Top's not in focus, and the man looks washed out. He has more color in his face IRL, I promise. But here it is anyway. I did this one with mostly brushes, but did use the knife a little.

20" x 24", oil on linen mounted to birch

* I re-uploaded these pics after painting the sign on the building.

Bill this is a terrific painting. I just wanted to say thank you to you for your wonderful paint out idea. I will likely never get to Paris IRL but thanks to you I have gone virtually. I am working on something for the challenge and I'll get it to you.
All of your paintings are beautiful. The colours... you do fantastic work.

You've cleverly chosen a typical Paris scene for this piece and I like the amount of detail that you have included. All of those details shout out France. Well evoked.

Bill,
You should post your reference image from Google street view on this or the next..

I am sure that the Google image won't be as vibrant as this painting, but people (other than me, too) might be curious where you start from with your Google street view works.

This series of paintings is a superb idea and thoroughly accomplished. Congrats! (Let's hear it for Omaha, NE -- my hometown!)

Thanks Mick. I almost cropped to the shop only, but am glad I didn't.

Hi John. Thanks for the comments. I've looked and looked for the ref location, but can't find it again. I looked at over 20 Nicolas locations to no avail. I usually send a link to the view to myself via email, don't know why I didn't do it with this one. If I do find it, I'll post it. :)

First off, fun painting!

I know this might sound strange but looking over your landscape paintings and this one in particular I think your work has a definite whimsical feel to it under the surface.

Oh, and that's meant to be a compliment!

I just spent my coffee break with your art and your thoughts. Thanks for the interesting 20 minutes (ah, 35min and counting). I sent you my little sketch of a Paris flower shop for the Paintout. I felt like I was there. What a great idea. Thank you, Thank you.
Your paintings are wonderful. I will be back to check on your progress.
