Larne, Northern Ireland

Finished this one up before work this morning. Loved playing with the textures and colors in this one. Still fairly subdued, but hopefully the point comes across.

NOLA - Lower 9th Ward Series - #1

I've been thinking for some time about starting a series of small knife paintings based on the views I find through Google Street View in the area of New Orleans called the Lower 9th Ward. As most people know, this was one area hit devastatingly hard during Hurricane Katrina, and the resulting flooding caused by broken levees.

I've picked ten views on which to base the paintings. I seriously doubt that anyone will look at any of these paintings and proclaim their beauty. That's okay.

Two for Lunch

This one is mostly palette knife work. Constantly trying to push myself, and trying hard to simplify details.

Adding a few detail shots. Thanks for looking.

Dana Point Surf

Tried a square format with this one. This is also all painting knives. The beach view is of Dana Point, California, and the sky is from my head. I'm going to have to try and photograph this one as a whole again at some point. The pic didn't turn out well at all. Including some details shots. Thanks for looking.

Norwich Sky

This one is a bit of a different take than usual for me. It was fun working with both brushes and knives. Thanks for looking. Let me know what you think. I'm adding a detail shot of part of the lower building mass.

Saint Remy Chateau

Here's my latest. I'm adding a couple of detail pics, as the painting as a whole didn't photograph that well.

Landscape at Saint Martin la Plaine

Here's one I did today. The landscape part is from Google Street View. It's in France. The peasant woman is compliments of my good friend Pissaro. She hails from one of my favorite paintings by him. I do hope he doesn't mind loaning her to me for a short time. Although he might be spinning at his easel with the outcome.

This one was fast and loose. A bit more dark and impressionistic than my normal. Thanks for looking.

Oxford Shadows and a Radio Show

Here's my latest effort. A view of a city street in Oxford, UK.

I also did a short radio appearance today on talkSPORT radio in England. It was sort of a game show where people asked me "yes or no" questions to try and determine why I had been in the British papers lately. Nobody could figure it out. Then I answered a few normal questions. My home line was horrible with static, combined with the British accents, I had to concentrate pretty hard to figure out what was being asked of me.  Really fun though. And I appreciate them asking me to be on the show.

Daily Mail Article & Metro Article

Here's a link to the Daily Mail article that ran today online...

LINK

Here's the Metro article also.

The Daily Telegraph, 10 Sep 2009. Page 3

Below you'll find page 3 from the September 10th edition of the Daily Telegraph. As one of Britain's largest read newspapers, I'm very happy and honored to be included. This is the printed edition, and they also included the story online.

I also have news that Britain's The Sun ran a two-page spread of my paintings today, and called me "Vincent Van Google". Ha! Sadly, their print edition isn't available online (not that I could find anyway), but the journalist who did the story is sending me one via snail mail. Metro ran the story also in their print and online editions.
