  1. So, these incredible paintings all happen in one sitting? Wow.

  2. Your landscapes are so easy on the eye! (For once, while idly browsing the Blogs of Note, I was encouraged to scroll down.) Thank you for posting your lovely work.

  4. Hi Bill, I just wanted to say how much I like your painting - particularly the Street Map series. Great Idea!

I was wondering, how do you combat the slow drying time of oils? Especially when you do the painting in one sitting?

Love your creative idea to paint the street maps....maybe they'll want to make a movie about that. :-)

  7. Hello everyone, and thanks for commenting. Most of my paintings are accomplished alla prima, or, in one sitting.

I really have no tricks to painting alla prima. I like painting thickly when I can, so it's no problem for me to lay colors down with mixing (too much) with what's underneath.

I've had no formal training, and taught myself (still learning every day) in the way I felt comfortable. I suppose if I'd had an education in the arts I might have leaned toward a more traditional approach to painting, i.e. glazing, etc. But I really like moving all the paint around wet into wet and working the edges.

  8. That should have been "to lay colors down WITHOUT mixing (too much) with what's underneath."
